The Visit: Sinthujan

„From childhood to adulthood, I’ve never lived in a room as spacious as this. With little space available, our rooms were always crammed with items. They felt heavy.“

„Like my mother, I struggled to let go of things, tried to carry them along wherever I go. Most of my possessions are left in London, where most rooms come furnished.“

„In this space, I, for the first time, had the opportunity to be creative about space and design. I tried to keep it simple, light and airy. It was an attempt to live differently than I grew up, different to what I was constrained to do for many years and became used to.“

„In my head I had painted a future living space to be as my current one. Today, I like to get up and emerge in the space without having to carry that sort of weight with me.“
